Coffee and Brunch Scene

Café culture in Mundaring is mingled with trail treading, making it the perfect spot to relax and refuel. Mundaring and its surrounding villages are home to many cosy cafes, all a hop, skip and jump from the 41km Railway Reserves Heritage Trail. Hop on and off the loop trail at your leisure, there’s plenty of caffeine stops from Darlington to Glen Forrest and beyond.

A firm favourite is White’s Mill and Grind, which only grew with popularity when it moved from its original Mount Helena home to Stoneville. Specialising in filled bagels, excellent coffee and one of the best fresh bake lineups in Perth, it’s a mere 250 meters wander from the trail. The covered alfresco area is dog-friendly, and their homemade cakes make it a must-stop for walkers and cyclists alike.

Want to grab and go? The Artisan Mundaring Bakery Café is your go-to for handmade pastries, speciality sourdough and small batch sweet bites – brownies, pastries, tarts, doughnuts and more. If you’ve forgotten the picnic, they whip up super fresh salad rolls to fuel a bushwalk. Be sure to take home a loaf of crusty sourdough too, perfect for dunking into steaming soups.

Historic Pubs and Trailside Fare

Perth Hills Mundaring is known for its rich railway heritage. The Railway Reserves Heritage Trail, aka ‘The Pedal and Pint Trail’, links its villages together in one neat loop. Where there was once a railway station, you can almost guarantee there was a tavern on the train line. Mundaring is dotted with several heritage pubs, welcoming you with a creak from century-old floorboards, freshly poured ale and open fireplaces once the chill sets in. Steeped in local history, here classic country hospitality meets Mundaring’s iconic walking and cycling trails.

Opposite the old Mundaring Station Master's House, The Mundaring Hotel is a lively pub with regular gigs and a shady beer garden. Come for a drink and stay for the pork belly bites, or their famous Sunday roast with all the trimmings, in cooler months. Established in 1899, the hotel was designed to attract tourists enjoying Mundaring’s bush setting – it’s great to see nothing has changed!

Mount Helena Tavern is that classic Aussie pub with a rust-coloured corrugated iron roof. Famed for its expansive beer garden, with winter creek running through, this watering hole is affectionately known as “Mounties” to locals and day-visitor alike. Inside, comfy chesterfield sofas welcome you to put up your feet by the roaring fireplace (in season). Located right on the Railway Reserves Heritage Trail, you can even tether your horse here if you’re out on a trot.

A little further west on the trail lies the historic, and some say haunted, Parkerville Tavern.  A family friendly destination for decades, the federation-style pub boasts a casual vibe, farm animals, and a massive playground with a big green tractor. Enjoy a slice of pizza straight from the oven and keep your eyes peeled for cheeky chip-pinching parrots in the eucalyptus trees above.
