Explore the Perth Beaches highlights along coastal cycle trail.

Sealed edge much of the Perth's coastline with a duel-use cycle and walk path stretching 12 kms from Sorrento Beach to City Beach along the West Coast Drive. You can visit many coastal highlights along two major trails - the Indian Ocean Explorer from Fremantle to Cottesloe and the Sunset Coast Ride from Marmion to Burns Beach. The trails pass some of Perth’s most iconic stretches of coastline and beaches.

Indian Ocean Explorer

Experience Western Australia’s spectacular coastline from Fremantle to Cottesloe on a stunning Indian Ocean ride.

Ride through the historic West End of Fremantle, the working port, across the Swan River into North Fremantle and onto a coastal cycle path taking in some of Perth’s most iconic stretches of beach including Port, Leighton and Cottesloe. Bring your bathers for a dip or two along the way. Click here to view the trail brochure and map.

Sunset Coast Ride

This easy, 14 km trail includes eleven interpretive signs that provide information on the native flora, fauna and history of the area and will take you past a number of highlights including the Marmion Marine Park, Hillarys Boat Harbour and Burns Beach. The trail north to Burns Beach weaves through a natural coastline of scrub, alternating with fabulous coastal views.

Fishing areas, swimming beaches, lookouts, toilets, pubs, kiosks and stores, can all be seen along this trail or alternatively via a nice drive all the way up the coast. Trail markers along the route provide distances to the next section. Please note that at many times of the year the prevailing wind makes riding south more difficult than riding north (for example, if you are riding the trail from Burns Beach to Marmion).

Whilst the trail can be started at either end, and accessed from any point, the official start is located in the suburb of Marmion, approximately 20 minutes drive west of the city. Bike hire is available in Scarborough, which is six kilometres south of Marmion. Click here to find out more about this trail.
