Kings Park, known for its breathtaking biodiversity and iconic views of Perth, has now introduced stargazing events, bringing dark sky tourism to the heart of the city.

With low levels of light pollution across its 400 hectares, Kings Park offers an ideal spot to see bright constellations, stars, and planets - a unique experience rarely available in urban settings.

The Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority (BGPA), which manages Kings Park, partnered with Star Tracks Astro Events to host its first stargazing event in September during the popular Everlasting Kings Park Festival. The event, "Sunset and Stargazing," attracted over 75 people, who enjoyed telescopic views of Saturn, the Moon, star clusters, and nebulae, alongside live music, picnics, and a guided laser tour of the night sky's constellations. This successful event marks the beginning of Kings Park's venture into dark sky tourism, creating a new eco-experience for locals and visitors alike.

As dark sky tourism gains popularity in Western Australia, Kings Park joins other Astrotourism WA initiatives in promoting and preserving the night sky. With 18 designated Astrotourism Towns across the state, WA is fast becoming a top destination for astronomy enthusiasts, aiming to protect and celebrate the night sky.
