Dwellingup Forest Discovery Centre

Day 1: Perth - Pinjarra - Dwellingup

Begin your journey south from Perth, reaching Pinjarra in just over an hour. This historic town, one of the oldest in Western Australia, blends country lifestyle with a vibrant arts scene. Start at the Edenvale Heritage Precinct, where history meets creativity in a hub of galleries, craft, and culture. Stretch your legs with a stroll across the Pinjarra Suspension Bridge. and enjoy the Murray River views.

No trip to Pinjarra is complete without a stop at the award-winning Pinjarra Bakery – a WA institution. From gourmet pies to sweet treats and barista-made coffee, it's the perfect fuel for your adventure. Families (and the young at heart) will love Ranger Red’s Zoo & Conservation Park, a boutique hands-on zoo where you can pat kangaroos, hand-feed animals, and meet more than 150 species including wombats, dingoes, and Tasmanian devils.

By mid-afternoon, continue to Dwellingup – your base for the next two nights. Check into Dwellingup Adventures accommodation, choosing between the centrally located Holiday House with its cosy comforts, or a ready-to-go camper van set up in Lane Poole Reserve, surrounded by forest trails and the Murray River right on your doorstep. This is the perfect base for kayaking, rafting, or simply soaking up the tranquillity of nature.

As evening approaches, indulge in a wine tasting at Redgum Wine Estate and watch the sun set over the vineyard with a platter of nibbles. Alternatively, enjoy hearty pub fare at Longriders Café & Restaurant or the historic Dwellingup Hotel.

Day 2: Dwellingup

Wake to nature's symphony, stretch your limbs, and prepare for a day of exploration. Begin with a wholesome breakfast at a café in town, before heading to the Dwellingup Trails & Visitor Centre - here you'll find interactive trail maps, digital displays and advice to help you choose your adventure.

Take on a section of the world-class Bibbulmun Track, or opt for shorter trails like Marrinup Falls Walk Trail (waterfalls in winter, wildflowers in spring) or the historic Marrinup POW Camp Trail. For a bigger challenge, join Off The Beaten Track on a guided hike through the surrounding jarrah and marri forests. Thrill-seekers can head to Treetops Adventure Dwellingup, soaring above the forest on aerial obstacle courses designed for all confidence levels. Mountain bikers can hire gear or book a guided ride with Dwellingup Adventures, including sections of the world-renowned Munda Biddi Trail.

Slow down in the afternoon with a visit to the Forest Discovery Centre, housed in its iconic leaf-shaped building. Explore art, woodcraft, and local history, then wander Dwellingup's eclectic boutiques and street murals - we recommend following the Dwellingup Art Trail. Round off the day at the Wine Tree Cidery, sharing a ploughman's platter and sampling small-batch wines and ciders as kangaroos and emus wander nearby. Return to your accommodation to unwind under clear, star-filled skies.

Day 3: Dwellingup - Pinjarra - Perth

After checking out, take the scenic drive back through farmland to Pinjarra through picturesque farmlands for one last taste of Murray Region charm. Enjoy a wholesome brunch at Garden Eats, known for its fresh, plant-based and gluten-free options.

Follow the Pinjarra Heritage Walk Trail, beginning and ending at the Edenvale Heritage Precinct, passing 19 historic sites along the way. Discover how heritage buildings now house boutiques, antique stores, and galleries. Browse D.D.'s Fashions, The Crosswalk, Ashdown & Webber, and Blue Moon Collectables & Antiques, then admire local works at Liveringa Gallery. Don't miss the Bindjareb Maar art installation in the town square, celebrating the rich culture of the Nyungar people and sharing stories of past, present, and future.

Before heading back to Perth, stop in at the beautifully restored Exchange Hotel, built in 1866 and now a modern hospitality venue.
