We have curated a suggested weekend itinerary filled with fun family experiences and thrilling adventures, plus kid-friendly hotels and eateries that the whole family will love.
Where to Stay
Love to be in the heart of the action? Check in to Crown Promenade on Friday to get your weekend started! The Superior Twin rooms feature two double beds, giving the whole family plenty of space to relax and recharge. Explore a little further to find a cool pool, well-appointed gym and all the delicious Crown dining options. Crown Promenade is found right next door to Crown Theatre, so be sure to check out what’s on during your stay.
Your weekend fun begins on Friday afternoon, with an easy check in at the Metro Hotel South Perth. With rooms that sleep up to four people, the whole family is sure to get a good night’s sleep. The Canning Highway hotel offers up glimpses of Perth city and the Perth Hills, and it is a short stroll to the Swan River. Why not hit the river side walk trails, or even bring your bikes?
Friday
Afternoon
Once you’ve checked into your hotel, follow your nose to a delicious dinner. Soak up the city lights from the South Perth Foreshore. Miss Chows offers up Asian bites to share with a river view, while Rambla on Swan is an elegant option for those celebrating a special occasion. Take a walk down Mends Street and find more casual options with kid’s menus at new spot, The Station and historic pub The Windsor.
Saturday
Morning
Start your day with a breakfast at your hotel, or why not take a wander down the vibrant Albany Highway strip in Victoria Park? There’s plenty of top brunch spots to check out, and caffeinate at including Social Manna, The Imp, Sixteen Ounces and more.
After a hearty breakfast, head straight for Matagarup Zip & Climb. Don a harness and walk to the top of the 72-metre-high bridge. Turn the adrenaline levels up a notch and make your way back down to solid ground via a zip line, right across the Swan River!
Or, why not head to The OZONE at Optus Stadium? The OZONE offers a multitude of behind-the-scenes experiences at the award-winning Optus Stadium. From tours of the changerooms and commentary boxes, to sitting on the roof to watch a game of sport! There are even tours on sporting history, parkland and the aboriginal culture around the Optus Stadium Precinct. Whichever experience you enjoy – you’re sure to leave with plenty of memories.
Afternoon
After all that action, you’re bound to be feeling peckish. Grab lunch at Optus Stadiums’ City View Café or next door at Australia’s largest pub, The Camfield. Or, take a wander over the Matagarup Bridge and along the river to Claisebrook Cove in East Perth. Here, you’ll find waterside cafes and pubs.
Refueled with good food, take a putt around the beautifully manicured Matagarup Mini Golf. Sculptures of kangaroos and swans, as well as a few surf boards set the West Aussie tone for the 18-hole mini golf course that is a “hole” lot of fun for all ages. Putt around obstacles and water hazards, there’s even a mini Matagarup Bridge to putt across and finish off the last hole.
Head to Crown Perth for a family feast at one of the delicious buffet restaurants, Atrium, or the kid friendly Merrywell pub. Looking for something super casual? McDonalds and Subway are found at Crown Perth too.
Sunday
Morning
Check out of your hotel room and get ready to suit up for more action. You don’t need to jump out of a plane to feel the rush of skydiving at iFly Perth. Adults and kids as young as 3 years old can learn how to fly in the custom-made wind tunnel.
Or why not delve a little deeper at Perth Zoo. You may have visited before, but there’s always something to uncover – like the huge climbable numbat at the brand-new adventure playground. Have you taken a free walking tour (with plenty of fun facts) or had a “close encounter”?
A Perth Zoo Close Encounter experience takes your family behind the scenes to meet amazing animals up close. The Bush Buddies experience is just an additional $12 per person on top of the zoo entry fee. An intimate group gets the opportunity to gently stroke Aussie animals, and maybe meet a sleepy Echidna, feel a scaly lizard and feed a cute wallaby. Or how about getting eye to eye with a giant giraffe? There are many unique and memorable experiences to choose from.
After lots of walking around the animal habitats, grab a bite at the Zoo’s contemporary restaurant, Habitat. A day at Perth Zoo is always best finished with a ride on the historic carousel.
Looking for an action-packed weekend with the kids, that’s close to home? Simply head to the city for a couple of days that will create many lasting memories for your family.
