There's nothing quite like a trip out to the Swan Valley wineries, the only Australian wine region that's a short 25-minute drive from the CBD. Home to lush pastures, local gourmet producers and some of the oldest vineyards in Australia.
Here’s a guide to some of the best wineries in the Swan Valley to inspire your next day trip.
Nikola Estate
With its original grapevines planted in the 1830s, Nikola Estate is the second oldest winery in the Swan Valley. This historic estate, flushed purpled by their signature jacaranda trees lining their vineyards, provides a timeless wine experience. Fancy a spontaneous picnic for an afternoon lunch? We love their 'DIY picnic' option where you can pick up a bottle of wine and a gourmet grazing box packed with premium charcuterie and Barossa Co paté to enjoy on their lush lawns.
Oakover Grounds
Oakover Grounds is an all-in-one stop for wines, beers, and bites – plus you can even grab some local gourmet produce and gifts to take home from the Swan Valley Marketplace. The recently refurbished Oakover Grounds is a modernised industrial-style barn with a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. The expansive lakeside lawn and cafe makes it an ideal spot for large gatherings so you can kick back with family and friends. Be sure to bring along some lawn games!
Upper Reach Winery
Upper Reach Winery is known for its commitment to sustainable winemaking and focus on producing wines that reflect the Swan Valley's unique climate and soil. We especially love their Treehouse Pizza Bar – built around a magnificent Marri tree, the Treehouse is perched between the vineyard and the Swan River on one side, and the beautiful lawn, and cellar door on the other. The winery’s restaurant and accommodation options make it a great choice for a full day out or an overnight stay. Be sure to visit during February and March to catch one of their live Twilight Picnic Concerts.
Sittella Winery & Restaurant
Sittella Winery, one of Swan Valley’s newer wineries, has quickly become a favourite for both locals and visitors. The on-site restaurant provides a gourmet menu designed to pair perfectly with their wines, making it an ideal spot for lunch. With panoramic views of the vineyards, Sittella combines their award-winning wines with a tranquil dining experience. Sittella is known best for its flagship sparkling wines, with trophies across the board, and a 5-star rating from James Halliday.
