Bombastic bakeries

Perth has some incredible bakeries, taking your childhood favourite desserts to the next level! Think sweet pies, filled pastries, macarons and more.

Let's start with the legendary Bindoon Bakehaus & Cafe in Chittering, who are beloved for their award-winning pies but have some serious baked dessert game going on as well. Apparently Prince Harry was a fan of the banoffee eclair, so you can eat like royalty here!

Next up, Maison St Honore in the Swan Valley, a fave spot on the Swan Valley Sweet Temptations Trail. This French-owned and operated patisserie serves up macarons, ice-cream, crepes, croissants, cakes, painstakingly handmade with love in the kitchen to French savoir-faire and recipes. For more decadent French pastries, Aurore, located at the base of The Ritz-Carlton, Perth at Elizabeth Quay is an artisanal bakery, patisserie and coffee bar that combines high quality ingredients and classic flavours in all its products.

Chu Bakery in Highgate dishes up some gorgeous baked treats like donuts and lamingtons, - perfect to enjoy as part of a picnic at Hyde Park, which is conveniently located just across the road! While Mary Street Bakery doesn't have the sheer variety of sweet treats as some other bakeries, what they do serve up is a-mah-zing: some of the best donuts, croissants and escargots you’ll find anywhere in Perth. Ruby's Patisserie is a hidden gem in the NOR suburbs (Tuart Hill, to be exact), and a firm favourite for locals. They've been serving up exquisite cakes and desserts for over two decades: opera cake, chocolate mousse cake, country lemon tarts and much more.

Pinjarra Bakery, another countryside bakery legend whose pies have filled the bellies and hearts of many locals and tourists alike - but again, they're not just serving up great pies, they're rocking the dessert menu too. You'll find their bakeries in Pinjarra, Waroona, Maddington and Port Kennedy, serving up sweet treats like continental custard horns, pecan tarts, apple strudels and more. Another popular bakery in the Peel region is Miami Bakehouse. While well-known for their amazing award-winning pies, they also serve a wide range of delicious cakes.

Drool-worthy chocolate

Heading back to the picturesque Swan Valley (a.k.a Perth's food bowl) you'll find two amazing chocolatiers: Whistler's Chocolate Co Swan Valley and the Margaret River Chocolate Company.

Whistler's Chocolate Co is WA's oldest chocolatier, an iconic brand full of tradition that's been a favourite for generations. Seriously delish! The Margaret River Chocolate Company also has a wide range of gourmet choccie treats, and both chocolatiers have Swan Valley showrooms with plenty to choose from, with cafes on-site. They're less than 10 mins away from each other, and the flavours of the respective chocolatiers are quite different, so visit both to stock up for your picnic basket (and more for your friends and fam!)

Further up north, you'll find the chocolate shop and tearooms Chocolate Drops within the scenic Yanchep National Park, which is also home to some stunning walking trails, native animals galore, and the iconic Crystal Cave. If you;re visiting the National Park, make sure you drop in to Chocolate Drops - it's the perfect way to make sweet memories of your trip.

You’ll find plenty more chocolatiers in Perth City - Margaret River Chocolate Company has a (smaller) showroom here too, and there's also Koko Black, Sue Lewis Chocolatier, Coal River Farm Chocolate & Cheese and plenty more to excite your choccy-loving taste buds.
