Perth's street art is seriously cool!

Street art is often thought of as the domain of funky Melbournian laneways, but Perth is increasingly taking its place as Australia's second street art city, with awesome murals abounding far and wide - from funky Perth City neighbourhoods to the outer suburbs.

You'll find exciting celebrations of Perth's vibrant street art photographed in its gorgeous splendor at Perth’s most popular street art blog Streets of Perth (with over 200 thousand subscribers). To whet your appetite and start off your street art explorations, here are six of our favourite Perth street art mural’s to enjoy as you #SeePerth in its creative glory.

Perth City

Perth City abounds with a wide variety of gorgeous street art, and you'll come across plenty of murals on your wanderings down Perth's streets and laneways, with a wide variety of themes highlighting Perth in all its colour and diversity – and with its convenient location and hustle and bustle, you'll never be far from a coffee as you explore!

You'll find this eclectic mural next to the Hertz building on Murray Street, just a few minutes' stroll from Perth train station. This huge mural was painted by the talented Mexican artist Curiot back in 2015 for FORM's #PUBLIC2015 festival; look closely and you'll notice Curiot's very cool reimagining of a koala.

One of Perth's newest and more exciting pieces, this mega-mural on Hay Street was completed in August by Melbournian street artist Matt Adnate on the side of Perth's first Art Series hotel, which bears his name and is inspired by street art in its design; furthermore, each of the 250 rooms of the hotel boast prints of the artist's most-recognised works. The mural stands 27 storeys high, making it one of the world’s tallest murals, and features three large-scale portraits of faces representing the multicultural and diverse fabric of Western Australia.

This gorgeous mural was also painted as part of FORM's #PUBLIC2015 street art festival, by Indonesian artist Eko Nugroho. You'll find it on the Western Power building on Moore Street in Perth, just outside of McIver train station. Nugroho is an internationally-renowned contemporary artist based in Yogyakarta, whose works merge traditional with modern to great effect.

Como, South Perth

Located in the South Perth area, Como is a gorgeous riverside suburb only a short distance from Perth City. Preston Street is a great place to enjoy Perth street art, as well as trendy cafes, restaurants and bars, and the historic Cygnet Cinema. The following gorgeous street art murals are must-sees before you settle in for a fun day of boutique shopping and tasty fare!

This eyecatching portrait of beloved and influential English film director Alfred Hitchcock (known as the "Master of Suspense") is painted on the exterior of the Cygnet Cinema in Como. The mural was commissioned by the Cygnet, and painted in 2013 by American street artist Nils Westergard, whose street artworks can be found gorgeously decorating several Australian cities as well as in London, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, the US and many more places worldwide. 

This cute, quirky, cheerful and multicultural street art mural is also on Preston Street - you'll find it on the side of Nasi Lemak Korner (where you can stop by for some authentic, tasty Malaysian fare). This mural was created by Malaysian artist Josh Kane Gomes, who debuted his first solo art exhibition in Malaysia earlier this year; you can follow his work on Instagram @joshgnomes.

Armadale

This beautiful work of street art is located in Perth's outer suburb of Armadale, in Memorial Park (a short stroll from Armadale Train Station). Like the mega-mural on the side of The Adnate in Perth City, this work was painted by Melbournian artist Matt Adnate. Adnate painted this beautiful mural in 2017 as part of that year's Armadale Arts Festival. While you're in the area, don't forget to check out the rest of what the gorgeous Armadale region has to offer: 28 walk trails, the stunning floral spectacular of Araluen Botanic Park, the peaceful Bodhinyana Monastery in Serpentine, and wine tasting on the Baldivis Wine Trail.
