Whale Watch Western Australia has introduced a new Winter Whale Watch experience departing from Fremantle, offering visitors the opportunity to witness the northern humpback whale migration from Perth in winter for the first time.
Operating from June to August, the three-hour tours coincide with the annual migration of more than 45,000 humpback whales as they travel north to their breeding and calving grounds.
The new experience expands Whale Watch Western Australia's seasonal offering, allowing visitors to enjoy humpback whale encounters from Perth between June and November, with winter tours showcasing the northern migration before the southern migration begins in spring. Tours continue to operate from Augusta and Albany throughout the season.
Alongside providing a new visitor experience, the Perth tours will also contribute to ongoing research, with Whale Watch Western Australia collecting data on whale sightings and behaviours to better understand the species' annual migration and the role of Perth's coastline in this journey.
