The Aquarium of Western Australia (AQWA) has announced plans for a major multi-stage expansion and redevelopment, introducing new immersive attractions and visitor experiences.
The proposed project will blend Western Australia’s diverse marine environments with state-of-the-art technology and interactive learning. Since opening, AQWA has welcomed almost 10 million visitors. The expansion is designed to further strengthen the aquarium’s position as a major tourist attraction, enhance the local destination and enrich the visitor experience in Western Australia.
Works are scheduled to commence in May 2026, with the first new attractions from the estimated $13 million-plus development expected to open in 2027. The initial stage will feature the Two Oceans Theatre, a 10-metre-high, 125-seat 3D dome cinema and event venue - the first of its kind in Western Australia.
Later stages of the project will introduce new aquarium exhibits, a reconfigured visitor arrival experience, additional outdoor spaces and a dedicated conservation facility supporting marine education, research and rehabilitation.
