Perth Zoo has unveiled its latest attraction with the launch of a state-of-the-art gibbon habitat and crossing.

The new design utilises vertical space and triples the habitat area for the critically endangered white-cheeked gibbons, giving them room to brachiate long distances just as they would in the wild. Visitors can now enjoy a truly immersive experience as gibbons swing overhead along rope pathways above the zoo's walkways - a first for Perth Zoo.

This world-class exhibit is the second major project delivered under Perth Zoo's Master Plan 2040, supported by a $52 million Cook Government investment. Alongside the new habitat, the zoo has also upgraded the Parkland Heart Precinct with new seating, barbeque and event spaces, and an accessible Changing Places facility – making the zoo even more inclusive and family-friendly.

The new habitat builds on Perth Zoo's record year, with over 900,000 visitors in the past 12 months following the successful opening of its new café, playground, and function centre. Click here to learn more.
