Fremantle/Walyalup has been named Australia's Top Tourism Town for 2025 at the Australian Top Tourism Town Awards.
The category recognises towns with a population of more than 5,000 that offer outstanding visitor experiences, with judging based on attractions, amenities and accommodation. This accolade is a major achievement for Fremantle, reinforcing the city's importance as one of the Perth Region's most vibrant and authentic visitor destinations.
Steeped in history and charm, Fremantle is home to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Fremantle Prison, the iconic Fremantle Markets, lively Fishing Boat Harbour, and a thriving restaurant and café scene. Its rich maritime heritage is showcased at the WA Shipwrecks Museum and WA Maritime Museum, while visitors also flock to its buzzing music venues, beaches, galleries and festivals. Nearly a million day-trippers experience Fremantle each year, drawn to its unique blend of culture, history and coastal lifestyle.
Mayor Hannah Fitzhardinge said the award was a tribute to Fremantle's authenticity and the many passionate people who bring it to life. "Visitors love to connect with genuine experiences, and we love sharing our heritage, culture and coastline with them. This award is recognition for the many passionate people, guides, volunteers, operators, artists, and business owners, who bring Fremantle to life."
