Off The Beaten Track WA has launched a new guided hiking and wildlife experience in collaboration with the Kaarakin Black Cockatoo Conservation Centre, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore Banyowla Regional Park and learn about Western Australia's native wildlife and conservation efforts.
Located just a short drive from Perth City, the Kaarakin Wildlife Experience combines guided nature-based adventure with environmental education, providing visitors with an intimate look at the work being done to rescue and rehabilitate Western Australia's endangered red-tailed and white-tailed black cockatoos.
About the experience
The guided tour begins at the Kaarakin Black Cockatoo Conservation Centre, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of black cockatoos. Participants enjoy an exclusive behind-the-scenes experience, including:
- Encounters with native Australian animals such as black cockatoos, kangaroos, emus and dingoes in a safe, guided environment.
- A visit to Jack's Interactive Aviary, where rehabilitated cockatoos may approach guests for a gumnut treat.
- Insights from Kaarakin's team of wildlife carers, sharing stories of conservation and rehabilitation efforts.
The tour also includes a 3-kilometre guided hike through Banyowla Regional Park, featuring eucalyptus forest, granite outcrops and seasonal creeks. The experience concludes with a morning tea on a granite outcrop overlooking the Perth city skyline, allowing guests to relax and take in the natural surroundings.
Supporting conservation
As part of this partnership, $20 from every ticket sold is donated directly to Kaarakin to support ongoing wildlife rescue and conservation programs.
