Alex Hotel has collaborated with Noongar artist Sharyn Egan for their new site-specific artwork, Colours of Boorloo.
Alex Hotel has announced their partnership with acclaimed local Noongar artist Sharyn Egan - Colours of Boorloo, a captivating and immersive art installation that will be suspended in the hotel’s lobby window. This striking work, inspired by the rich cultural history of the land, is designed to engage not only hotel guests but also passersby, offering a unique and thoughtful addition to the public space. Colours of Boorloo will be on display as part of the relaunch of Alex Hotel’s Lobby Bar from 5 December 2024.
The installation measures 4 meters in length and 60 centimeters in diameter and is crafted from vibrant colored cotton rope. Drawing from the natural landscape of Boorloo (Perth), Egan’s use of soft earth tones and blues symbolises the layers of the land, the Swan River, and the underground waterways that define this area. The piece is a representation of the people who have lived on this land, both past and present, and Egan describes it as an inclusive work that speaks to the collective experience of the community.
The unveiling of Colours of Boorloo marks an important milestone in the Alex Hotel’s ongoing commitment to supporting local talent and strengthening its role as a cultural hub in Perth. The hotel continues to provide a platform where art, hospitality, and community intersect, offering guests and visitors a space to engage with contemporary culture in meaningful ways.
As part of its broader cultural initiatives, Alex Hotel remains dedicated to fostering an environment that celebrates the unique heritage and diverse voices of the region. With the addition of Colours of Boorloo, the hotel further solidifies its position as a key destination for both locals and visitors who seek to experience the vibrant arts scene in Perth.
