Nothing beats the warm sunny days and balmy nights of Perth in summer, which is why so many great events and festivals pop up to take advantage of the season.

Whether you’re into music, food, drinks, shopping, sport or all of the above, there’s so much going on in Perth this summer that you’ll be spoiled for choice, so we’ve picked some of our favourites that we’re most excited for - and we know you will be too.

New Years Eve

We all know that the summer season is kicked off by Christmas celebrations (check out our article on the Best Ways To Celebrate Christmas In Perth), but the summer festival fun truly starts with New Years Eve!

If you’re looking for somewhere to ring in the New Year with the whole family, then you’re in luck, with a plenty of options to choose from.

If you’ve got young kids, then check out the NYE Super Hero Family Countdown: rather than counting down till midnight, this event counts down the last sunset of 2021, and offers delicious food stations (pizza, BBQ, pasta, salads and ice-cream!) as well as a range of fun activities, entertainment, mini golf and DJ tunes! The event runs from 6-8:30pm, so the little ones can get to bed early.

Perth City has pulled out all the stops again with The City at New Year's Eve, involving exciting street entertainment for all ages such as daring circus performers, children’s workshops, vibrant installations, roving acts, and fireworks! Being in the city means you can head in early and take advantage of the surrounding venues too, including the Twilight Hawkers Markets, Perth Cultural Centre’s Festive Land (carnival rides and games galore) and even the WA Museum Boola Bardip, which is keeping its doors open until 9pm with kids workshops right outside!

After more of a destination celebration? Then you can’t go wrong with New Year’s On Rottnest Island! The festivities kick off from 3pm with a range of activities and events for the whole family, including beach games, a circus show, a silent disco, acoustic music, roving entertainers, upbeat tunes and, of course, fireworks to cap off the night. A series of late night ferries will be running to get you home in the evening. Don’t forget to register for your FREE tickets, with ferry tickets to be purchased separately!

Maybe you’re looking for something a bit fancier to ring in the New Year. The Novotel Vines Resort in Swan Valley is hosting The Vines New Year 2022 Degustation Dinner, allowing you to indulge  in a six course degustation in Muscats Restaurant with your friends and family. Reserve your table now to secure this unmissable dining experience.

Other Events

Of course, there are plenty of other events going on this summer in Perth! There’s way too many to list, but here are a few more that we’re most excited about.

The cheekily named Ice Cream Factory Summer Festival is back and running for 10 huge nights from December 3 to January 1 (including Christmas and New Year’s Eve), with over 50 DJs, 11 bars, 2 rooftop decks, a Funk Silent Disco and so much more! If you’re into live music festivals, this is one you won’t want to miss.

Speaking of things you don’t want to miss, the Perth Scorchers Big Bash League is a must-attend for cricket lovers. Hosted at Optus Stadium, these seven exciting matches will run across December - including a Boxing Day blockbuster! Check out the fixtures and book  your tickets now.

Summer means fun in the sun, and what better way to cool down than the Cabana Pool Bar! Located at The Marina, Mindarie, the Cabana Pool Bar will transport you straight into holiday mode with resort inspired menus, creative cocktails, house music and an unbeatable atmosphere. There’s even popular weekly events, Friday Gin Club or Sunday High Pimms to keep things interesting - just in case you were tempted for multiple visits (totally understandable). Drop by for a cocktail, or book to enjoy a meal or secure a daybed and dip in the pool.

The Scarborough Sunset Markets are back and running every Thursday night until April, so you have plenty of opportunities to head over for a visit to (almost) end the week. Thursdays are the new Fridays right? This season is bigger and better than ever, with over 100 foodies and retailers showcasing their mouth-watering cuisines, hand crafted artisanal delights, homemade doggy treats and so much more! Of course, there’s live music and some tasty drinks to enjoy as you watch the sun set too.

Fridays are for food - head over to Forrest Place in the city every Friday night until March for the Twilight Hawkers Market. With 35 stalls offering a wide selection of international cuisine options, you can either try a few one night or head back each week to try something different! There’s live music too, which means great vibes all around - the best way to kick off the weekend.

The Raft Perth has announced their inaugural Sail Away Sundays, running every Sunday until April. With two options to choose from - their Bottomless Brunch or their Sunset Sessions - you’ll enjoy plenty of food, drinks and music all while taking in the stunning 360 degree views of the Swan River aboard their luxurious floating barge. Book your tickets now.
