It’s January, and the school holidays are in full swing! 

Now that Christmas and New Years are out of the way, you’re probably actively looking for things to keep your little ones busy for the next several weeks. Well great news - we’ve more than got you covered until school goes back!

Perth City has you covered these school holidays with a range of activities for everyone.

For a fancier way to spend the day, The Ritz-Carlton is hosting an Australiana Afternoon Tea for kids up to 12 years old! Just because you’re in the city doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy some outdoor fun so take on some friendly competition with Collier Park Mini Golf! The course has 18 holes and is suitable for mini-golfers of all experience levels. The course is open 9am-8pm every day, and you don’t need to book before you arrive. Just rock up and have fun!

If you’re open to something a little different, then Zero Latency Perth has you covered: immerse yourself in a whole new world with state of the art virtual reality! Perth Beaches & Sunset Coast

Make the most of the summer sun and try your hand at surfing with Perth Go Surf - a family owned surf school that runs at different spots along Perth’s stunning coastline. The friendly and energetic team of surfing instructors will have you up on your board and riding the (small) waves in no time!

If you’re keen to get out into nature, then the Treetops Adventure at Yanchep National Park is the place for you. Go on an exhilarating 2.5 hour experience, with courses ranging from 2 meters high (for beginners) to 10 meters (for adrenaline seekers!). Nothing says family fun like Adventure World - now open for the summer season (Sep-Apr). Peel & Rockingham

Down in Mandurah, Peel and Rockingham, there’s plenty of outdoor fun to be had.

First up, jump on a 5 minute ferry ride and head out to Penguin Island! Enjoy the white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters surrounding this gorgeous island, and spend as much time as you’d like swimming, snorkelling, picnicking and exploring while you’re there. You can even join a cruise to spot wild dolphins, seal lions and the world’s smallest penguins - in fact, penguin feedings happen 3 times a day by the Island Rangers. 

Over in Dwellingup, check out Treetops Adventure: Australia’s premier tree top adventure ropes experience. With hundreds of exhilarating tree-top obstacles and flying foxes on offer - as well as a range of courses based on different heights and ease of use - there’s something for the whole family to enjoy. Each course runs for 2 hours and includes training, giving you plenty of time to swing, leap, climb and fly through the forest!

Love animals? Visit Ranger Red’s Zoo & Conservation Park, a boutique, hands on zoo on the banks of the Murray River. It features over 200 species of birds and animals as well as a huge walk through aviary, and you’ll even get the chance of holding or petting various animals while you’re there! 

Animal lovers should also check out Cohunu Koala Park, where you can stroll the bush tracks and pathways, and hand feed many of the free roaming animals. You’ll also be able to see koalas, kangaroos, emus, deer and dingoes. It’s a unique wildlife experience right in our backyard.

Swan Valley & Darling Ranges

The Swan Valley and the neighbouring Perth Hills are exquisite this time of year, with the sun encouraging people to get out and explore. 

Start your getaway at the Swan Valley Adventure Centre, offering a multitude of options for summer holiday camps, outdoor adventures, nature retreats and so much more! There’s a wide range of adventure activities to participate in (on land, air and water), led by a skilled instructor to ensure you’re getting the most out of your stay.

Over in the Perth Hills, check out the charming village of Chidlow and explore the beautiful Lake Leschenaultia, a recreational lake nestled in scenic bushland. Another beautiful way to spend the day is over at The Orchard Perth in the beautiful Chittering Valley. The whole family can spend the day picking (and tasting!) fruit straight from the orchard, and also features a nature playground, scavenger hunt and an animal petting area. What a way to spend the holidays! 

Of course, there’s plenty more animal fun to be had too. Between the Swan Valley Cuddly Animal Farm, Caversham Wildlife Park and the Armadale Reptile Centre, there are so many animals to visit, feed and pet over the school holidays (and beyond)!

Avon Valley

Up for some unique, outside the box fun?

Head to Hoddywell Archery Park and try your hand at being Hawkeye for a day! There’s two fun (and safe) archery trails, as well as a 10m-80m target lane. The trails weave through natural bushland on walking paths with a range of distance targets. If you’re an enthusiast, there’s an archery store available and you can even bring your own bow!

Grab your skateboard, bike, scooter or basketball and head to Moort Wabiny Park, a fantastic youth precinct complete with Skate bowl featuring street elements, a pump track, a basketball court and a nature play zone. There’s even picnic and barbeque facilities available with cafes and pubs within walking distance too, so you can set yourself up for a day of fun.

Speaking of picnics, grab your basket and blanket and head over to Toodyay Fairytale Farm, where you can spend the whole day wandering the gardens, discovering indoor and outdoor displays of all your favourite fairytale and nursery rhymes, and of course there’s a bunch of friendly farm animals to interact with too!
