Spring is now firmly with us, the season of new beginnings and abundant produce.

With the weather already getting nice and warm at the time of writing, you don't even need a jacket most days to go out foodie-adventuring. So get ready to #wanderoutyonder and rekindle your shared love for our amazing city, together!

A quick but important reminder: social distancing restrictions still apply, so feel free to cuddle up with bae but keep respectful distance from not-bae. Without further ado, Here’s some of our favourite places to tantalise your tastebuds, together.

Balthazar Restaurant, Perth City

Perth City centre flavour adventure

Perth City is essentially the showcase of Perth, the place that people gather from around the state, and one of the most popular destinations for food and wine lovers. From modern Australian to international fare, street eats to soufflé, Perth is an excellent and convenient location for your romantic foodie needs! The Perth Dining Out Trail is a great place to start your culinary itinerary, and we've compiled a list of Perth restaurants, bars and more here. You'll find many wine bars and restaurants with good wine selections; some of our fave picks are below.

Balthazar's thoughtful and clever dishes focus on local produce, and their carefully selected wines are aimed to take diners on a journey; Fraser's Restaurant offers modern Australian delectable cuisine with extraordinary cityscape views from their premium Kings Park location; Sen5es Restaurant and Wine Bar is consistently rated among the top ten restaurants in Perth on TripAdvisor; The Reveley boasts a fab waters-edge Elizabeth Quay location with stunning views of the Swan River and offers three levels of distinct food experiences, with award-winning wines to savour.

Heno & Rey is a Spanish-inspired reinterpreted tapas bar with fab freshly caught seafood, delish charcuterie plates and more - perfect paired with one of their fine WA wines. And last but not least, Petition Wine Bar + Merchant is located in the stunning historic State Buildings, and its casual, convivial vibe, industrial-chic look, and divine dining and drinks makes it a favourite date spot!

Odyssea, City Beach

Beachside delights

The beach plays an important part in the heart and soul of us Perth folks, and while you may have been avoiding the chilly ocean breeze over winter, we bet you've been missing it. There's still plenty of magic to be had on the coast, with so many beachside establishments offering brilliant food and wine - and the sun setting over the Indian Ocean is the perfect, and quintessentially Perthian, way to enjoy a romantic meal!

Some great picks for food and wine alike include Odyssea at City Beach, with a menu inspired by their strong commitment to local producers and seasonality, and an extensive wine list complementing the menu that celebrates both local and international labels; Island Market at Trigg Beach, for fab fare with a Meditteranean/Levantine twist and a wine list with dozens of local and international wines from locales like Turkey, Greece and Spain; and Scarborough's iconic The Sandbar, with an extensive drinks menu and woodfire pizza to die for. (And oh, the desserts!)

Sittella Winery & Restaurant, Swan Valley

Swan Valley getaway

There's good reason why the Swan Valley is renowned as the food bowl of Perth, and with Spring in the air, it’s a wonderful place to be. The Swan Valley Fine Wine Trail and the Swan Valley Bush Tucker and Beyond Trail are full of great places to get your flavoursome adventure started; you'll be spoiled for choice, but some great places to start are the legendary Lamont's Winery fine dining restaurant and cellar door, boutique family winery & restaurant Faber Vineyard with rich, flavourful wines and delectable lunches, and the award-winning wines and modern Aussie fare at Sittella Winery & Restaurant. Finally, gin lovers won't want to miss the Swan Valley Gin Company, the only distillery in the Swan Valley to use grapes to make gin (a delish experience for which we’re truly grape-ful).

Nestled in the Darling Ranges north of the Swan Valley, and just one hour from Perth, Chittering has food and wine trails to die for, with award-winning wines from boutique vineyards like the Nesci Estate Wine Farm and the Stringybark Winery, Function Centre & Restaurant, along with an abundance of farmgate seasonal produce like citrus, mangoes, avocados, honey, eggs, stonefruit, nuts, asparagus, and goats cheese. Adding to this, the annual A Taste of Chittering festival is just around the corner (17 & 18 October), with farm-gate grower and producer heroes offering tastings and dishes from guest chefs, wine and beer from Chittering's own brewers and winemakers, a huge range of local market stalls, performances from musicians, farm and native animals and more. Bon appetit!

Plume Estate, Perth Hills

Head for the (Perth) Hills

You already probably know that the lush, green Perth Hills are full to the brim with natural bushland and tranquil walking trails to explore together; but the Hills are also an incredible food and wine destination! Explore the Bickley Valley Wine Trail with its gorgeous boutique wineries and cideries, surrounded by vineyards, orchards and the forest beyond.

Enjoy wine tasting, or order by the bottle or glass paired with cheese at the Myattsfield Vineyard; treat yourself to locally produced wines and delicious food at the winery and cafe at the Plume Estate; and don't miss the award-winning wines at the cellar door of the Hainault Vineyard. The Packing Shed @ Lawnrook boutique winery is also fantastic, known for their light, country style lunches that are perfect for a Spring picnic, or get cosy by the warm potbelly stove. Romantic day out, sorted!

Millbrook Winery, Jarrahdale

Countryside hospitality

Experience the best of the West, a comfortable drive from Perth! We're very lucky to have both the Avon Valley and the Peel Region at our doorstep.

The perennially beloved getaway town of Toodyay, just past the stunning Avon Valley National Park, is well-known for its wildflowers, tranquility and stunning valley views; but its food culture is truly a lesser-known gem! Check out the Toodyay Food and Picnic Trail for some delectable treats that are just what the picnic basket ordered, and make sure you pop into Coorinja Winery (one of WA's oldest wineries) for a fabulous bottle of dessert or table red wine to pair with them.

Last but not least, just south of Perth Metro, you'll find that the holidaymaker's delight of the Peel Region has even more to offer than the iconic friendly dolphins, Venetian canals and delish seafood of Mandurah. Serpentine/Jarrahdale is a mere half-hour from the hustle and bustle of Perth City, and its tranquil forest vistas are adored by nature loving couples for good reason; you'll also find wineries that are perfect for a romantic day trip. In particular, the winery restaurant at Millbrook Winery has been named in the Australian Financial Review as one of the Top 100 Restaurants in Australia, and with its beautiful grounds, it’s also perfect for a relaxing picnic with a bottle of wine.

The Shires of Murray & Waroona are fab for food and wonderful for wine, with highlights including Drakesbrook Wines, a boutique winery cellar door and specialize in alternative and emerging varieties. Want to know more? Check out the Peel Craft Beer and Wine Trail to whet your winery appetite!
